Life carried on as it was for a while. I stayed home with Harry whilst Leighton carried on at work. Ben went to school and hung out with Kathleen. And Harry played all day every day. He was cute and I enjoyed watching his antics. Nothing exciting seemed to happen but I guess that's how life goes when you're teetering over the edge of middle aged and you have nothing much else to do except watch over your family. I didn't mind. Life was easy and, frankly, I felt old.
And sure enough my birthday came round and I aged up into a wrinkly grey haired old lady. Complete with old lady shoes. Old age may take my blue hair streaks but it will never take my eyeliner, that's still as thick as ever, I can assure you.
My feeling old wasn't exactly helped by the aging up of my little boy into a child. He still retained his likeness to me in every way and I loved that. I loved staring into his purple eyes and seeing my own staring right back at me. Those eyes were every bit mine and I cherished that thought as I watched him grow into a young man.
My other young man was still strumming away on his guitar and making good progress. It cheered me up every morning to be woken by such a beautiful sound, much better than an alarm clock.
The boys were both still getting along fine, Ben helped Harry with his schoolwork and Harry baked muffins in return. I could tell their relationship was a good one and I liked to see that. Though I did feel that Ben needed to make a few more male friends. It was as if by magic that an old acquaintance of Leighton's turned up one evening and got chatting to Ben. I forget his name but they really hit it off. Don't be fooled by the evil looking face in the picture, they were discussing criminals on a television programme. I'm not sure he approved of my background but he didn't have to be friends with me, just my son.
After watching several driving programmes on TV and playing a racing game on our new games console, Ben was eager to learn to drive. I took him for a quick go around town and he seemed to get the hang of it, he's very good at things when he focuses on them. I had really wanted Leighton to take him out seeing as it was his car but he never got the time. He's been so busy at work trying to keep up with the youngsters. I really wish he'd retire, but he refuses point blank.
